Could the power of dance help ward off dementia?

As our population ages, it's a disease becoming all too common in Australia.

But it has been suggested exercising your mind and body in new ways can help improve your chances of holding on to memories right through your old age.

A group of older ladies in Bardon are aiming to do just that by strapping on their ballet shoes. For some, it's for the first time while others have taken ballet back up after years away from the dance floor.

612 ABC Intern Monique Vandeleur dropped in on a class to meet some of the pupils, including a student who is also a former Brisbane mayor.
