New class combines yoga with dancing

Katrina George is mixing ballet and yoga in her classes for adults

WESTSIDE NEWS, Wednesday, October 3, 2012

BARDON dance studio 2ballerinas is set to launch a new class combining yoga and ballet from October 12.

Katrina George, who danced with the founders of 2ballerinas at Queensland Ballet and is also qualified yoga teacher, will be leading the new strictly adults class.

Ms George said the class would fuse together yoga postures into dance-like sequences set to gorgeous and inspiring music.

"In many ways ballet is like yoga — it develops strength, agility, grace and requires concentration, which in turn calms the mind," Ms George said.

"Many adults now want to try ballet for the first time as they love the music and the grace."

2ballerinas offer 19 different dance classes a week at its main studio at the corner of Kennedy Tce and Lizzie St, Bardon, as well as the Queensland Ballet studios in West End. 2ballerinas, now in its fifth year has attracted seven new dance teachers this year — Kitty Smith, Michael Braun, Anthony Shearsmith, Evan Jones, Avril Huddy, Katrina George and Fiona Cullen.
