Queensland's heart of the performing arts scene, QPAC, celebrated its 25th birthday last week with an elegant reverside marquee reception at South Bank. Officiated by Queensland Governor Penelope Wensley, the event attracted actors, dancers, musicians and artists, including ballet great Garth Welch, entertainer Simon Gallaher and opera singer Donald Shanks. In an exhibition to mark the milestone birthday, Brisbane News chief photographer Justine Walpole's collection of emotive and darkly enigmatic portraits captured the eccentricities, integrity and grace of 25 performers associated with QPAC since its inception - including Geoffrey Rush, Sigrid Thornton, Gerry Connolly and Katie Noonan. The QPAC 25 Exhibitions runs until May 22 at Tony Gould Gallery, QPAC, South Bank.
