Avril Huddy

(Grad. Dip., Dance Instruction, QUT: BA (Dance) QUT)

Avril is a Lecturer in Dance in the Creative Industries Faculty at the Queensland University of Technology. Her independent performance career spans the last 18 years. During this period she has performed in many of Brisbane’s major arts and music festivals. Avril was a co-founder and curator of the Crab Room (1995) and Cherry Herring (1996) independent performance venues in Brisbane. She joined the Australian Folkloric Dance Company in 1996, performing in both the theatre program and the school-touring program. Avril spent 5 years performing nationally and internationally with Dance North (1997-2001). She returned to the company in 2005 for a short contract as tour manager and rehearsal director. 

Avril has taught company classes for EDC, Dance North, Chunky Move and Bangarra Dance Company. She is a qualified level 2 STOTT pilates instructor. She has taught dance technique, creative movement and pilates classes for community groups and amateur and professional dance organisations. Avril has taught across the three tiers of the Australian education system, designing and leading workshops for dance students, dance teacher in-services and professional development opportunities for dance teachers, dance educators and community arts workers.

These activities occur concurrently with Avril’s work at QUT, facilitating the exchange and integration of current ideas, trends and practices, enhancing both her teaching and performance work. 

Avril joined the 2ballerinas team in 2012.
