Queensland's leading adult ballet school
Celebrating 10 Years
two ballerinas

Jane Wallace

After seeing the Australian Ballet perform 'La Fille Mal Gardee', with David McAllister and Fiona Tonkin in the principal roles, I begged to start ballet classes at age 4. I soon started training with Tanya Pearson (Sydney) and over 10 years studied RAD ballet, character (under Russian teacher Rita Dubovsky) and contemporary. I did 2 years full-time ballet training in Sydney, working with many teachers, including Kim Traynor, Shane Carroll, Garth Welch, Julie Wells and studying their various styles (I'm sure there were a few coaching sessions with Rosetta too).

At 16 I studied at the Munich Ballet School (Heinz Bosl Stiftung) where I performed a lead role in a contemporary piece 'Lormir Tanzen', that was recorded at a television studio and aired on german TV. After a year in Munich I decided to leave ballet behind and returned to Australia to study contemporary at QUT, where I realised that my love of dance and any joy it brought had disappeared along the way.

I stopped dancing at 18 and ventured into other creative areas, first experimenting with dance in film, moving onto creating DVD showreels for dancers and then falling into graphic design. Since, I have performed in a few independent dance shows and extra roles in TV commercials and music videos - all just for a bit of fun.

This year I have started doing ballet classes again for the first time in 7 years. It feels great to get the body moving again in a familiar way, but with a totally different mindset and the freedom to enjoy ballet like I never thought I would again.
