Brisbane Premiere of the film – Mao’s Last Dancer

September 25, 2009

Brisbane Premiere of the film – Mao’s Last Dancer

Michelle and 2ballerinas Publicist Jane Murphy also attended the Brisbane Premiere of the film – Mao’s Last Dancer on Friday the 25th of September at the Dendy Portside.  It was a special fundraiser for The Australian Ballet and The Bionic Ear Institute and Australian Ballet Board member Sallyanne Atkinson invited Jane and Michelle to attend.  The Australian feature film Mao’s Last Dancer tells the inspirational true story of Li Cunxin.  Michelle and Jane both met Li and his lovely wife Mary McKendry (a Rocky girl) way back in 1990 when Li and Mary were guests of The Queensland Ballet for a Gala.  It was a very exciting night as Li and his wife both attended the Premiere and there was French Champagne and a Gala reception afterwards!  Michelle and Jane were lucky enough to speak to both Li and Mary, and we are hoping that Mary may be able to be a guest teacher for us down the track.  The film was absolutely fantastic – very moving and beautifully danced and acted.  It really is a remarkable Australian film – set in China and the USA, it was refreshing to see Australian actors in a different sphere.  Look out for wonderful Aussie dancers like the gorgeous Steven Heathcote and heaps of dancers from the Australian Ballet and Sydney Dance Company.  Its choreographed by Graeme Murphy and directed by Bruce Beresford.  We loved it and highly recommend the film to everyone at 2ballerinas.
